Blueberries in Bowl by Rob Ritchie is a charming original still life painting that finds beauty in the small details of everyday life. Painted in oil on board, the composition features a Chinese ceramic bowl filled with blueberries, with a couple of the little fruits resting casually beside it. Set against a soft, neutral background, this simple arrangement has a quiet appeal that encourages the viewer to pause and appreciate the beauty of familiar things.
The decorative bowl brings colour and character to the scene, its blue and red tones complementing the deep, dusky hues of the blueberries. Their rounded forms and subtle variations in colour give the composition a natural sense of rhythm, while the few berries that have fallen beside the bowl add a relaxed, spontaneous touch. These small details make the arrangement feel less like a formal display and more like a fleeting moment captured at home.
Ritchie’s contemporary realism is expressed through careful observation and a sensitive treatment of light, shade, and texture. The smooth surface of the ceramic contrasts with the delicate bloom of the blueberries, while subtle highlights give the fruit a convincing sense of volume. Rather than overcomplicating the scene, the artist allows these differences in surface and form to bring the painting to life.
The restrained background gives the objects room to breathe, keeping the focus on the relationship between the bowl and its contents. The interplay of blue, red, and neutral tones creates a pleasing balance, combining the richness of the fruit with the decorative charm of the ceramics. The result is an understated composition that feels both fresh and timeless.
There is a particular pleasure in the simplicity of this original contemporary realism still life. Blueberries are an everyday sight, yet their rich colour and delicate textures offer endless opportunities for observation. Through this intimate study, Ritchie celebrates the ordinary with the care and attention often associated with traditional still life painting.
Measuring 13 × 13 cm, the original oil painting is presented in a black frame measuring 20 × 20 cm. Signed by Rob Ritchie, Blueberries in Bowl is framed and ready to display. Its compact scale makes it an appealing choice for a small wall, a shelf, or a gallery wall alongside other contemporary still life paintings.
For collectors who appreciate original fruit paintings, contemporary realism, and beautifully observed everyday subjects, this work offers a subtle yet distinctive addition to an art collection or home interior.

Artist Bio:
Born in London, Rob Richie developed a passion for art from an early age, spending much of his childhood drawing and painting. Entirely self-taught, Rob has devoted many years to developing and refining his technique, continually evolving his distinctive approach to contemporary realism.
Rob’s professional painting career began with a solo exhibition in Richmond, London, followed by a period exhibiting and selling his work on the renowned railings at Green Park, Piccadilly. After relocating from London to Herefordshire in 2003, he began exhibiting regularly with galleries, marking the beginning of a significant period of professional growth and recognition.
For several years, Rob also specialised in the demanding discipline of miniature painting. His highly detailed miniature works featured in a number of successful, sell-out exhibitions in London and earned recognition and special awards from respected organisations including the Royal Miniature Society, the Hilliard Society of Miniaturists, and the Florida Miniature Art Society. His work was also acquired by the Hilliard Society for its permanent collection.
Today, Rob concentrates primarily on life-size paintings, with a particular focus on still life. Working predominantly in oils, he is fascinated by the interplay of light and shade, reflections, texture and the subtle imperfections that give everyday objects their character and timeless quality. Although still life remains his principal subject, he also enjoys painting flowers, landscapes and, occasionally, portraits.
Rob’s work is distinguished by his meticulous attention to tone, light and detail. He draws inspiration from the traditions of the Old Masters, combining classical painting techniques with contemporary arrangements and subjects. Through carefully balanced compositions, rich tonal contrasts and a sensitive use of colour and shadow, he seeks to create paintings that possess a timeless, enduring quality.
The resulting works occupy a space between traditional and contemporary realism, bringing together technical precision and a deeply considered appreciation of beauty in the everyday. His paintings invite the viewer to pause and look closely, discovering the quiet drama of light, reflection and form within familiar subjects.

“I have always loved painting. Born in London, I developed a passion for art from an early age, although painting remained a personal pursuit until the age of 27, when I made the decision to follow my passion and pursue a career as a full-time artist. Completely self-taught, I have spent many years continually developing, refining and challenging my skills, with a constant desire to improve and evolve as a painter.
Oil is my preferred medium, allowing me to explore depth, luminosity and subtle tonal variations while building a strong sense of realism. My approach combines traditional Old Master techniques with contemporary arrangements and settings. I strive to create paintings in which colour, shadow, light and composition exist in harmony, giving each work its own individuality while retaining a timeless quality.
Ultimately, my aim is to elevate familiar, everyday subjects through careful observation and craftsmanship, creating paintings that encourage the viewer to pause, look closely and appreciate the beauty within the ordinary.” – Rob Richie
