About the Item

Katherine Borkowski-Byrne’s” New Horizons” is a colorful abstract oil painting on canvas 24 x 30 x 1.5 inch oil painting on canvas with very thick spontaneous brushwork in saturated reds and blues on a white background. This emotionally raw and expressionist painting changes dramatically in different lighting and will continue to reveal surprising details. “New Horizons” is unframed with sides painted white and the signature on the reverse. Katherine paints while listening to opera and translates the many layered-music into many-layered paintings. She is influenced by the art of the New York School of Abstract Expressionism with it’s focus on being in the moment and the use of fortunate accidents and experimental techniques. Katherine’s work is in many corporate and private collections. She is represented by Fountain Street Gallery based in Boston, MA.

Using only her hands and an occasional pallet knife, she paints in multiple layers, sometimes scraping off the paint with her fingers only to reapply a new color later, resulting in a deep texture and raw motion.
