About the Item

Gravity is usually something we fight. In this painting it becomes something a woman rests into, and that is the quiet revolution of Grace of Gravity. The work began with a real sitter, a woman who posed at forty-nine. She is shown from the waist up, shoulders drawn back, chest open, chin lifted, her face raised toward a light we cannot see. The body is rendered honestly and tenderly, with its true weight and softness, and without apology. Nothing here is hidden or corrected. Her confidence doesn't come from looking younger or lighter. It comes from being entirely at home in herself. Above her, the mood changes completely. A wide, wheeling arc of sky blue, gold, coral, blush and cream sweeps across the canvas, threaded with navy and gray, spinning out into ribbons and fine droplets. Drifting through this current are pale, moon-like spheres, their surfaces pitted like cratered stone. They suggest time and its cycles: the phases a life moves through as it slowly becomes itself. What makes the painting so moving is the conversation between its two halves. Below, everything has weight, solid and grounded in deep charcoal. Above, everything floats. Rather than choosing between them, the painting holds both at once, as if being anchored and being free were simply the same state seen from two sides. The arc of color doesn't fly off wildly. It travels in a single sweeping direction, almost like an orbit, a freedom that has found its rhythm. At forty by thirty inches, it holds a wall with real presence. From a distance you see one sweep of blue and gold rising from a still, sculptural form. Up close, small events appear: the texture of the moons, the soft shifts of tone across the skin, the drips that fall just beyond the edge of the color. It is a portrait of beauty that ripens rather than fades, and a reminder that what holds us down can also be what holds us up.

Imagine a Night - Impasto Thick Paint Colorful Original Figurative Art

Imagine a Night - Impasto Thick Paint Colorful Original Figurative Art

By Cynthia Coulombe Bégin

Located in Los Angeles, CA

Coulombe-Bégin's dynamic acrylic on canvas works seek to produce a metamorphic interpretation of the artist's inner identity. Her paintings make ample use of contrasting colors to create exuberance and energy in her images. Inspired by street art, Coulombe Bégin 's paintings range from the abstract to the surreal and employ a variety of techniques and materials. Her contemporary artworks draw inspiration from body image, the universally recognizable symbol of hearts, and the experience of humankind. She brings a sensitivity to her work that stems from her exploration of identity and the joy and happiness of existence. Coulombe-Bégin draws us into her internal world: exploring the soul and matter, conscience, and the modern universe. This original figurative pop art painting measures 48 inches square. The thickly textured paint is applied with tactile brushwork. It is wired and ready to hang. The sides of this artwork are painted black and it does not require framing. Free local Los Angeles delivery. Affordable Continental U.S. and worldwide shipping are available. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included. Coulombe-Bégin’s work portrays from colorful hearts to specific parts of the human body, especially large close-up portrayals of the mouth and eyes, which are depicted with great contrasts of color and chiaroscuro. These symbols are constructed with specific gestures and drippings in which Coulombe-Bégin expresses an abstract universe full of movement, symbolism, and eroticism. Born in Miami, Coulombe-Bégin grew up in Quebec City where she earned a Bachelor of Visual Arts in 2006 from Laval University. Starting very young, her parents focused a great deal on both the arts and athletics which helped her develop her mode of expression. “I am particularly interested in the fragmented corporal shell, which I emphasize through spontaneous movement and vivid colors.” stated Coulombe-Bégin. “My experience with painting has led me to see things differently, to self-discovery and great astonishment." Coulombe-Bégin's works have been exhibited and collected worldwide, including Canada, the United States, Europe, South America, and Australia.
