About the Item

Color lithograph on antique paper, Edition 20. Burckhardt is interested in art from cultures where symbols and narrative forms are mysterious and indecipherable. Seeing artifacts independent of background knowledge, he uses the images abstractly and constructs a unique visual language. His influences include extensive travels, Mayan ceramics, Asian art, the New York school and funhouse painting.
