This 1960s haute couture black wool crepe evening dress is by Carven and is beautifully tailored with a striking and elegant line. This piece combines style and simplicity with some dramatic design features. The fabric below the round neckline is gathered so that the fabric fans in soft folds over the bust and the empire waistline curves up slightly on either side. The ankle length skirt is comprised of 4 x straight panels with a single seam at the centre front which is split from just below the knee to the hem line. The reverse of the dress is cut away from below the yoke and along the length of the sleeves leaving a seductive window from below the shoulder blades to reveal the back of the arms as well as the upper back. Large ornamental tassel features are suspended over the bare back from the yoke and run the length of each arm. Each tassel is embellished with sparkling black cut glass beads at the top.
