About the Item

A flared diamond-faceted lower bowl matched to a domed circular lid characterizes this heavy cut crystal bonbon dish. Arranged in radiating tiers of geometric petal and diamond facets, the cuts refract ambient light through thick, clear lead crystal. The cover is topped with a turned brass finial attached through the centre with a threaded screw fitting, providing a practical grip for lifting. Both the base bowl and lid feature multi-faceted relief cutting that forms a starburst pattern when viewed from above or below. The underside of the base bears an acid-etched cursive maker's mark for Val Saint Lambert alongside a capital letter 'S'. The glass displays high clarity and brilliant light dispersion typical of the Belgian glassworks, with deep precision cutting across the rim and curved walls. Designed primarily as a bonbonnière or sweetmeat container, the compact proportions make it equally suited for serving confectionery, storing trinkets on a dressing table, or standing as a decorative accent. The piece measures 13 cm in diameter across the rim and stands 10 cm high to the top of the finial. The two-part construction seats the domed lid neatly within the stepped inner flange of the base. Manufactured in Belgium, probably during the 1960s, this covered dish demonstrates the crisp geometric styles favoured by mid-century European glassmakers. The pairing of luminous colourless crystal with the warm metallic tone of the brass knob gives the object a distinctive presence on any tabletop. We ship internationally, tracked.
