About the Item

Folk Art Wooden Marquetry Picture Frame, Clover-Shaped Photo Frame - Dated 1928 Exceptionally rare and most probably a unique piece! Beautifully crafted antique wooden marquetry picture frame, dated 1928. This unusual frame features a quatrefoil, or clover-shaped, silhouette and an exceptionally decorative composition created from several contrasting species of wood. Warm honey, golden and dark brown tones are arranged in a sophisticated marquetry pattern, with stylized scrolls, geometric accents and a delicate floral-inspired motif surrounding the central opening. The frame is centered by a round medallion, originally designed to hold a small portrait or devotional image. The frame was found with an image of the Virgin Mary, suggesting that it may originally have been made as a devotional picture frame. The reverse bears the handwritten date “1928”, together with two initials ("P.I." ?) and a small floral motif, adding a particularly personal and intriguing element to the piece. The original metal hanging loop is preserved at the top. A rare decorative piece that would make a beautiful addition to a collection of antique frames, folk art or early 20th-century decorative objects. Please note: the original devotional image is no longer present. The painted portrait and the blue circular insert shown in the photographs are not included with the frame. They have been placed temporarily for photographic purposes only, to illustrate the possible appearance and use of the frame. Dimensions : 18,5cm x 18,5cm x 1,5cm depth
