About the Item

The Design & Impact: This commanding piece conveys a profound sense of grandeur and authority. The vessel is tall and solid, featuring gracefully rounded shoulders, a slightly contracted mouth, and a high domed lid. Together, these elements create a silhouette that is both elegantly refined and undeniably powerful. Carrying deep cultural meanings of nobility and protection, the jar stands as a remarkable fusion of classical spirit and modern artistry, perfectly suited as a sophisticated, standalone focal point for a curated luxury interior. The Material: The vessel is enveloped entirely in a spectacular purple Jun glaze. Renowned since the Song dynasty, Jun wares are famously celebrated by the ancient idiom: "one color into the kiln, ten thousand hues out." The highly tactile surface transitions fluidly between deep violet-blue and brilliant rose-red, producing organic, natural gradients that shimmer with restrained brilliance. Through his extraordinary mastery of modern kiln firing, the artist beautifully captures the unpredictable mystery and radiant depth of this historically demanding, elusive glaze. The Artist: Originally trained in mechanical engineering, Taiwanese ceramicist Shi Jie Weng discovered his passion for clay in 2004 and has since become a master of monochrome glazes. Operating from his independent studio, he dedicates himself to rigorous experimentation with metallic oxides, high temperatures, and precise kiln atmospheres. His obsessive dedication to mastering these volatile elements results in museum-quality finishes that have earned him widespread acclaim, including the prestigious Practical Pottery Excellence Award at the 2019 Taiwan Ceramics Awards.
