Marcello Fantoni for Raymor Italian Mid Century Ceramic Ashtray Catchall
By Marcello Fantoni, Raymor
Located in St. Louis, MO
A vibrant 1950s Italian studio ceramic round catchall dish by renowned Florentine ceramicist Marcello Fantoni (1915–2011), created for Raymor, the premier American importer of mid-century European design led by Irving Richards. Featuring a straight-walled cylindrical rim with three integrated rest notches, the piece showcases Fantoni's mastery of raw, volcanic surface textures and warm, earth-toned glazes. The exterior and interior basin transition through banded gradient layers of mustard yellow, terracotta orange, ochre, and deep slate brown with a pitted, lava-like texture. Dimensions: Diameter: 7 5/16" D (7.32 inches / ~18.6 cm) Height: 1 5/8" H (1.63 inches / ~4.1 cm) Condition Report :Excellent vintage condition. The heavy, tactile lava glaze remains intact with vibrant original color. Free of major chips, hairline cracks, or structural repairs. Normal age-appropriate wear and rough texture along the unglazed base edge, consistent with authentic 1950s Fantoni production. Creator: Marcello Fantoni Distributor: Raymor (Irving Richards) Origin: Florence, Italy Period: 1950–1959 Styles: Mid-Century Modern, Italian Modernism, Studio Craft Materials: Ceramic, Stoneware, Polychrome Sgraffito / Lava Glazes Markings: Incised on base "Fantoni / Italy / for / Raymor" Item Type: Ashtrays / Catchalls / Decorative Bowls Marcello Fantoni pottery, Fantoni for Raymor, Italian mid century ceramic ashtray, Fantoni catchall dish, 1950s Italian studio pottery, Raymor Italy ceramics...
