About the Item

A timeworn, primitive wooden structure that holds an array of original, uniquely turned wooden bobbins and spools. Each spool features a distinct patina, with all still wound in their historical threads of muted blues, rich terracottas, cream, and mustard yellow. The varied shapes and sizes of the hand-turned spools create an engaging, rhythmic visual texture. Metal rods run vertically straight down through the hollow center of each turned wooden bobbin, acting as the pivot point or axle that allowed the spools to spin smoothly when thread was being drawn off or wound on. Dimensions: 65 3/8" L x 24 1/4" x 3" D Condition: The primary hardwood frame shows extensive natural aging, weathering, and grain separation. Surfaces exhibit expected minor surface scratches, abrasions, small chips, and localized checking (cracking along the grain), none of which compromise the structural integrity. The remaining yarn wraps are tightly bound but show minor fraying, fading, and dust accumulation appropriate for historical textiles.
