About the Item

These Italian gilt brass wheat sheaf wall sconces carry a motif Coco Chanel kept in every room of her Paris apartment: the sheaf of wheat, her private emblem of luck and abundance. Sold as a set of three and newly wired, they are ready to install. Chanel's attachment to the symbol ran deep. She asked Salvador Dalí to paint her an ear of wheat and hung the canvas at 31 rue Cambon, and she had Robert Goossens cast a gilded wheat sheaf as the pedestal of a Regency-style table. The motif carried through European decorative arts for decades afterward. The design follows Roberto Lotti's wheat sheaf model, one of the patterns that defined Italian gilt lighting in the 1970s. This set is a later production made after 2010 by the Lotti company, built faithfully to the original. Each wall sconce is composed as a stylized sheaf of wheat, with elongated stems gathered tightly at the base that flare upward into crisply defined grain heads. Twin candle arms rise from the bundle. The silhouette is vertical and symmetrical, which gives the design architectural clarity, while the spiga di grano texture softens the line. The gilt brass finish has a warm satin tone rather than a high polish, so the surface modeling reads clearly when the sconces are lit.
