About the Item

Scandinavian Mid-Century Swivel Arm Wall Lamp by Pagos, Sweden, 1950s Elegant and highly functional Swedish wall lamp manufactured by Pagos during the 1950s. Combining warm brass with a contrasting wooden fitting and a pleated fabric shade, the lamp is a fine example of the practical yet refined approach characteristic of Scandinavian mid-century lighting. The design is built around two slender brass rods connected by a sculptural wooden element. This seemingly simple construction incorporates an ingenious adjustable mechanism: the lower brass rod can slide through the wooden fitting, allowing the arm to be extended or shortened according to the desired position. The long projecting arm gives the lamp a particularly graceful architectural presence. Its slender proportions keep the construction visually light despite its considerable reach, while the combination of brass and wood adds warmth and tactility to the otherwise minimal design. The adjustable construction also makes the lamp exceptionally practical. The shade can be brought closer when focused illumination is required or moved farther into the room to provide more general atmospheric lighting. This flexibility makes it particularly suitable beside a bed, sofa or reading chair, or above a table where a conventional wall light would offer insufficient reach. The restrained combination of natural wood, brass and textile is distinctly Scandinavian, balancing functionality with carefully considered materials. Over time, the brass has developed the warm character associated with vintage lighting of the period, complementing the natural tone of the wooden fitting. A newly made pleated fabric shade completes the lamp, softly filtering the light and providing a pleasing contrast to the linear brass construction. A characterful example of Swedish 1950s lighting, combining an ingenious adjustable mechanism with elegant proportions and a beautifully understated use of materials. Very good vintage condition with minor signs of age and use consistent with its age. The shade is a later replacement. Wiring: All our lamps are wired for EU standards. Unfortunately, we have neither the means nor the qualifications to wire them for US standards.
