About the Item

An arched cresting rail with crossbanded walnut framing establishes the distinct Queen Anne silhouette of this dressing table bureau mirror, constructed around 1800 during the Georgian era. The swing mirror plate is suspended between a pair of turned upright supports surmounted by slender urn finials, held in position by adjustable side turn-keys. Richly figured walnut veneers are laid across the mirror frame, continuing the early eighteenth-century styling favoured in traditional English cabinetmaking. The sloping bureau base features a hinged fall-front embellished with feather or herringbone banded inlay surrounding book-matched walnut veneers. Manual lopers pull forward beneath the slant to provide sturdy support for the writing flap when lowered. Internally, the compact fitted compartment is arranged with a central open recess flanked by partitioned pigeonholes and four petite stationery drawers, each crafted with a serpentined facade and miniature turned brass knobs. Beneath the bureau section sits a full-width frieze drawer fitted with fine hand-cut dovetail joints, reflecting careful traditional workshop joinery. Its shaped front carries matched walnut grain consistent with the upper slant and is fitted with a pair of brass drop handles alongside a central brass keyhole escutcheon. The entire miniature bureau rests on four low turned bun feet, elevating the case cleanly on a tabletop or chest. Functioning equally well as a portable writing slope and vanity mirror, this compact combination piece demonstrates the domestic practicality of dressing boxes from the period. The overall dimensions measure 48.26 cm in width, 25.5 cm in depth, and 81.28 cm in height, with the mirror plate assembly measuring 31.5 cm wide by 49.5 cm high. The warm honey patina across the walnut highlights the decorative banding and fielded surfaces across the case. We ship internationally, tracked.
