About the Item

Mirror. Carved and gilded wood. Spain, 19th century. Rectangular wall mirror with a frame made of carved and gilded wood, with some openwork areas. It has a crest at the top, with architectural and vegetal decoration (garlands of flowers, leaves...) arranged around (and symmetrically) a curved form reminiscent of 18th-century Rococo rockeries. Note also the wavy edges of the frame in this area. In the rest, outside the usual composition of plain mouldings, a series of plant and architectural motifs (scrolls, leaves, scrolls, etc.) are arranged, with some detail showing, once again, a certain Rococo influence. The piece shows a clear influence of 18th-century Rococo works, as mentioned above, but with an arrangement more common in 19th-century works. In addition, a clear French influence can be mentioned (in this school we would speak of a Louis XV style). Compare, for example, several mirrors in the Museo Cerralbo in Madrid in which the upper part of the mirror shows gentle curves (inv. 04166 -dated to the second half of the 19th century-, etc.). - Measurements: 172x20x260 cm. Weight is orientative, it may vary. International Buyers – Please Note: for those articles that need Export Permits (those older than 100 years), the obtaining of the Permit will be processed without additional expenses (if you choose the seller sends it to you), but the period for the obtention of it may vary from 10 to 35 days.
