About the Item

A sofa with spacious, comfortable seats designed by Adriano Piazzesi in the 1970s, characterized by a soft, sculptural, and deeply enveloping design. The piece is upholstered in black faux leather, with generous padding, wide, rounded armrests, and high, deeply contoured backrests. The back of the sofa, too It features particularly meticulous craftsmanship: the backrest is defined by a chrome-plated tubular metal frame that runs along the sides and the lower edge of the backrest, creating an interesting contrast between the softness of the seats and the rigidity of the metal frame. The profile follows the sofa's rounded lines and highlights its geometric character. The back of the seat is wide and slightly curved, while the padding is deliberately left visible, with folds. It features seams, ripples, and slight variations in the surface caused by the manufacturing process and the natural aging of the material. The result is a collection with a distinctly 1970s aesthetic, where organic, flowing shapes are paired with metallic details in the rationalist style. Adriano Piazzesi (1923–2009) was a Florentine designer, architect, painter, and sculptor who was active in the fields of design and interior design beginning in the 1960s. His architectural training influenced his approach to design, which placed particular emphasis on the relationship between structure, form, materials, and comfort. In the furniture industry, he developed a long-standing collaboration with the Florentine company Tre D—later known as Arketipo—for which he designed numerous chairs, armchairs, and sofas. Among his early designs is the Premier armchair from 1969, characterized by an extremely simplified structure and soft, enveloping shapes.
