About the Item

A striking example of Italian modernist design, the Arflex B146 modular bookcase was designed by Italian architect and designer Carlo Bartoli in 1963. Defined by its architectural geometry and minimalist black finish, this vintage shelving system reflects a forward-thinking approach to functional furniture design. The bookcase is composed of clean horizontal shelves intersected by bold vertical supports, creating a rhythmic, almost sculptural structure. Its open configuration allows light to pass through the piece while providing generous space for books, art objects, ceramics, and collectibles. The deep black finish enhances its graphic silhouette, making it equally compelling as a practical storage solution or a standalone architectural feature. With its strong geometric lines and understated presence, the B146 works beautifully in a living room, study, office, or gallery-inspired interior. Its modular design and timeless aesthetic make it a distinctive addition to a collection of Italian design classics.
