A beautiful Swedish Art Deco chest of drawers dating from the 1930s, crafted in warm, richly grained elm. Recently restored with great care, the piece retains the understated elegance and refined simplicity characteristic of Swedish furniture from the period. With its clean architectural lines, softly rounded details and beautifully figured elm veneer, this chest embodies the restrained sophistication of Scandinavian Art Deco. The natural variations in the wood grain give the surface a distinctive sense of depth and movement, while the warm honey and caramel tones create an inviting, timeless presence. Measuring approximately 70 cm in height, 80 cm in width and 41 cm in depth, its compact and well-proportioned format makes it particularly versatile. It can be used as a chest of drawers in a bedroom, a sophisticated storage piece in a hallway, or as an elegant cabinet in a living or dining room. The design is typical of the furniture found in Swedish homes and apartments during the 1930s, when functionality, craftsmanship and natural materials were combined with the streamlined aesthetic of the Art Deco era. Rather than being overly decorative, Swedish Art Deco furniture...

This dresser features wonderful, asymmetrical streamlined lines, unique round drawer pulls, and Stunning Circassion Walnut Veneer. This dresser was originally designed by Sakhnoffsky for display in the "House of Tomorrow" during the 1939 New York World's fair! Some more info on Count Alexis de Sakhnoffsky: Count Alexis de Sakhnoffsky was born in Russia in 1901, the son of an Advisor to Tsar Nicholas II. Following the Russian revolution he escaped to the continent and began a career as an automobile designer emigrating to America in 1929. In America he designed many famous automobiles and his drawings of futuristic cars appeared in Esquire Magazine from 1934 on. In furniture he advocated streamline design as in the Bloomingdale’s Department Store furniture shown at the 1939-40 World’s Fair in New York. Outside automobiles and furniture, de Sakhnoffsky also created designs in the areas of aircraft design (Sabca), boat design (feather-Craft), Bike design (Murray), watch design (Gruen), and radio design (Emerson). This desk represents the perfect culmination of all of these influences and is one of the best examples of his 'streamline' furniture design aesthetic. Add to all of that the 1939 World's Fair connection and you have an extremely rare collector's piece that spans an almost infinite number of genres!
