About the Item

From Barcelona, an exceptional Catalan Modernist partners desk, crafted in solid mahogany with sculptural lines and exceptional detailing. The design is anchored by an elegant gilt-bronze (ormolu) stretcher in a botanical motif — a defining element of the Modernisme style. Each pedestal houses two dovetailed drawers fitted with swan-neck brass bail pulls on shaped escutcheon plates, complete with integrated keyholes. Above the drawers, open shelving adds both visual lightness and practical storage. The writing surface features an inset glass protector over green felt, bordered in molded mahogany. Cabriole legs and subtle carved accents complete this refined yet expressive piece. Catalan Modernisme (ca. 1890–1920) was a regional design movement rooted in Barcelona, paralleling Art Nouveau but with its own identity — characterized by flowing lines, nature-inspired ornamentation, and high-quality local craftsmanship. Furniture from this period is increasingly rare and sought after for its bold artistic presence and cultural significance. Dimensions: 63″ Wide 31″ Deep 32″ Tall
