About the Item

This exceptional English Art Deco bar cabinet from the 1930s combines the glamour of the cocktail era with an ingenious folding design. When closed, it presents itself as an elegant and relatively compact cabinet; opened, it transforms into an impressive curved home bar measuring 206 cm in width, creating a generous setting for serving drinks and entertaining guests. The exterior is finished in richly figured walnut veneer, its deep reddish-brown tones enhanced by a lustrous polished surface. Contrasting black lacquered elements emphasize the flowing silhouette, while chrome-plated fittings, handles and hinges introduce the characteristic metallic accents of the Art Deco period. One of the most distinctive features is the folding countertop. The lighter figured wood creates a striking contrast with the darker cabinet body and incorporates a large central frosted glass serving surface. Hinged extensions on either side unfold to create the sweeping bar top, giving the piece a remarkable transformation from closed cabinet to full cocktail bar. Behind the curved double doors, the interior reveals a carefully organized bar fitted with several shelves and dedicated bottle storage compartments. The glossy black interior is both practical and visually dramatic, continuing the refined contrast between warm wood, black lacquer and polished metal seen throughout the piece. Its adaptable design makes this original 1930s bar particularly appealing for contemporary interiors: substantial and impressive when entertaining, yet considerably more compact once the folding sections are closed. It works beautifully as a vintage home bar, cocktail cabinet or statement drinks cabinet, bringing authentic Art Deco character to both classic and modern surroundings. A rare combination of decorative craftsmanship and clever functionality, this original English Art Deco folding bar captures the sophisticated spirit of 1930s entertaining while remaining remarkably practical today.
