19th Century Victorian Carved Oak Mirror-Back Sideboard, circa 1850s Material: Oak, Mirror Glass An imposing Victorian carved oak mirror-back sideboard dating from circa the 1850s, distinguished by its impressive proportions, extensive carved decoration and highly practical fitted interior. Standing approximately 232 cm tall, the sideboard has a commanding architectural presence. The substantial oak construction displays a rich brown tone and attractive natural grain, complemented by intricate carved detailing characteristic of elaborate Victorian dining-room furniture. The upper section incorporates a large mirror within the carved oak superstructure, creating an impressive backdrop to the lower cabinet. The entire mirror section can be removed from the base, allowing the piece to be transported in two sections or enabling the lower portion to be used independently as a sideboard. The base incorporates three drawers together with substantial cupboard storage. Particularly noteworthy is the original wine cellarette, an appealing surviving period feature reflecting the sideboard's original dining-room function. A further cupboard contains removable slides, providing additional adaptable storage. With its combination of decorative carving, original cellarette, fitted storage and monumental scale, this is a particularly substantial example of Victorian dining-room furniture. Presented in good antique condition, with appropriate signs of age and historic use consistent with its period and origin.
