About the Item

English Regency Style Leather-Top Two-Drawer Coffee Table, Circa 1950s A 20th-century English Regency-style mahogany coffee or low library table, distinguished by its warm color, well-developed patina, and restrained classical proportions. The rectangular top is inset with mellow cognac-colored leather displaying natural variations in tone acquired through years of use. Tooled foliate decoration and a narrow Greek-key border frame the leather surface, while the surrounding mahogany has developed a rich honey-brown color. Subtle rubbing and darker areas along the molded edges contribute to the table’s inviting, naturally aged appearance. The front is fitted with two long drawers, each retaining a brass swan-neck handle, circular backplates, and central key escutcheon. The framed drawer fronts are separated by a narrow central stile and set within a molded frieze. Both drawers provide useful concealed storage for books, correspondence, remotes, and other living-room necessities. Four square, gently tapered legs terminate in restrained spade feet. Molded collars at the tops and bases of the legs reinforce the Regency influence while maintaining a clean and understated profile. At 22.5 inches high, the piece works well as a taller coffee table, low library table, or substantial occasional table positioned between lounge seating. Dimensions: 35.5 inches wide × 24 inches deep × 22.5 inches high. Each drawer interior measures approximately 14 inches wide × 18 inches deep × 3 inches high. Condition: Good vintage condition with a warm, naturally aged patina. The leather displays expected tonal variation, marks, and light staining. The mahogany has scattered scratches, abrasions, and edge wear consistent with age and use. The brass hardware retains an aged surface.
