About the Item

An exquisite and highly versatile pair of Italian late 18th-century Neoclassical folding game tables or consoles, masterfully crafted in rich, deep mahogany with delicate blonde walnut stringing and inlays. Hailing from an esteemed, private historic villa in Tuscany, these tables are a testament to refined Louis XVI or late-Georgian influence. Kept together as a true pair for centuries, they offer incredible symmetry and function for sophisticated modern spaces. Design & Craftsmanship The level of cabinetmaking on this pair is truly exceptional. Unlike standard game tables of the era, the flip-top lids are masterfully double-veneered, showing a magnificent, mirror-like mahogany grain both when completely closed and when opened for play. The edges feature a sophisticated geometric inlaid banding. When closed, the top profiles create an elegant, multi-tiered visual rhythm (fluted/molded edge). Each table is raised on four slender, elegant tapered legs with delicate ring-turned detailing, combining a lightweight aesthetic with absolute structural integrity. Versatility & Styling (Interior Design Inspiration) Pairs of antique tables are highly coveted by interior designers because they anchor a room perfectly. These modular pieces adapt easily to multiple luxury layouts: The Perfect Consoles: Position them symmetrically flanking a grand doorway, a fireplace, or beneath a large pair of mirrors in a hallway. Sofa Back Tables: Place them behind a floating living room sofa to hold lighting and decorative objects. Flanking a Bed or Window: Use them as high-end, unconventional oversized nightstands or statement side tables. Occasional Dining / Gaming: Unfold one or both instantly to create intimate dining settings, tea tables, or elegant workspaces. The Tuscan Villa Collection & Upcoming Feature This pair forms part of an exceptional single-owner collection acquired from a historic Tuscan estate, where the furnishings remained within the same family for generations. Preserved in their original setting and never previously offered on the market, the collection represents a rare opportunity to acquire pieces with remarkable provenance and continuity of ownership. Additional works and furnishings from the same estate will be released progressively. Collectors and designers interested in following the collection are invited to follow our storefront for future additions and capsule collection from this Tuscan Villa acquisition. Condition Report Excellent antique condition. Structurally sound, stable, and completely original. The mahogany boasts an incredibly deep, luminous shellac finish with minimal surface wear consistent with age. Hinges function smoothly.
