About the Item

A Ligne 2 in the larger Regular size, finished in red lacquer, from the 1990s. The lacquer sits over the flat planes of the body with a deep, even colour, catching a clean line of light along each edge where the panels meet the gold-plated fittings. It is a finish that rewards turning in the hand rather than sitting still on a shelf. The Ligne 2 arrived in 1977 as Dupont's flagship line, built slimmer than what came before it, and this is the size that carries the model's presence best. Flame adjustment lives on the base rather than at the latch, worked through a small screw beside the refill port, so filling and adjusting are two separate, deliberate actions rather than one fumbled together. The cap itself is the part people come back for: the architecture around the hinge was tuned to give a clear, ringing note on opening, the ping that collectors listen for and that has stayed the model's signature ever since. This one comes with its original box and papers, and the condition is graded good, meaning it shows genuine wear from having been used rather than kept aside. That is worth saying plainly rather than dressing up: a lighter carried and lit for years looks different from one that spent its life in a drawer, and this is the former.
